As the storm approaches, lightning hits again and again.
By midnight we'd had about two inches of rain in Hemingway. Some areas had violence. Wind broke down trees in Florence and other South Carolina towns, and hail up to 4 1/2 inches in diameter did an estimated 6 million dollars worth of damage to Florence County homes and autos.
The crops are saved -- for now. That is, except for some corn that was too far gone.
