The town of Hemingway (pop. 829) is located in the northeast corner of Williamsburg County near the Grand Strand of coastal South Carolina. Although much closer as the crow flies, Hemingway is 50 miles from Myrtle Beach and approximately 80 miles from Charleston, SC. Hemingway is located at 33.75 lattitude and 79.44 longitude in the southern part of the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.

Several rivers flow near Hemingway including Lynches River, the Great Pee Dee River, the Little Pee Dee River, and the Black River, with the Santee River and Sampit Rivers not much farther away. This causes the area to have a lot of wetlands and swamps as well as some nice rolling land that is great for farming.

Williamsburg County is characterized by hot summers and mild winters. It has an average annual rainfall of 51.6 inches and an average yearly temperature of 62.5 degrees. The average January temperature is 44 degrees and July temperatures average at 80.1degrees.
